The benefits of meditation can touch many areas of your life, helping you decrease stress and anxiety, better manage your emotions, let go of mental distractions, and be more present and attentive with your kids.
And while you can practice meditation any time day or night, you'll reap the most benefits early in the morning. I know, I know, even just a few minutes a day can seem daunting, but I promise starting your morning with a calm, focused mind will set the tone for the entire day - when you start your day centered, you will be in a better place to deal with the challenges and opportunities that the day may bring (hello, mom life).
And we all know what the days can bring...
And if I still haven't convinced you, here are
10 Morning Meditations Benefits:
1) Boosts your mood. By meditating a mere 10 minutes first thing in the morning you can take control of the tone of your entire day. The sense of peace, relaxation, positive energy and focus can help you face the day feeling hopeful, grateful and happy.
2) It enhances your awareness. Meditation helps you examine your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, making you more able to detach from them. It can make it easier to control negative thoughts, as well as build a greater appreciation for the positive moments you experience. The increased self-awareness and abundance of clarity from a morning practice will help you better navigate the day with skill and ease.
3) Reduces worry and calms your mind. Morning meditations can bring a deep sense of calm to your mind and reduce needless worry and habitual thought patterns. Starting your day with a clear mind will minimize creating excess worry and monkey-mind thoughts throughout the rest of your day.
4) Prevents stress and anxiety. Meditation stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which has a variety of healing effects on your body. It slows your heart and breathing rate, lowers your levels of cortisol and boosts your blood flow, leading to a sense of relaxation. Establishing a regular practice can make it easier to deal with the daily frustrations in life, including all things motherhood.
5) Improves productivity. Regardless of what you need to accomplish during the day, a morning meditation routine allows you to achieve greater control over how you respond to temptations. You can take on tasks with enthusiasm and energy, allowing you to finish quickly and efficiently. With a greater sense of focus and energy comes greater productivity and improved work satisfaction.
6) Improves concentration and focus. A morning meditation routine is a great way to clear your mind to enhance your ability to remain focused throughout the day.
7) Boosts overall health and well-Being. Meditation can reduce headaches and migraines, aid in high blood pressure, and improve insomnia.
8) Increases Energy. There are multiple reasons how a morning meditation routine can improve your energy. For example, it allows you to get higher quality sleep, which can help you wake more energized in the morning.
9) Increases Kindness and Compassion. As meditation reduces your stress levels and enhances your sense of emotional awareness, it encourages more empathy and less judgement towards others. A daily morning practice can create a kinder and more compassionate perspective of the world.
10) Boosts your Confidence and Self-Esteem. Through daily practice, you can filter through the negative self-talk that often clouds our sense of self and reinforces our negative self image.
Why Morning Meditation is Important:
Meditation has been found to have a wide range of benefits; however, the time at which you choose to meditate has a role to play in how much you benefit. Whether you’re a morning person or not, you can greatly benefit from dedicating as little as five minutes each morning to quiet your mind and reflect on the stillness this practice brings.
A consistent morning meditation practice calms the mind and allows us to gain greater insight into life’s important lessons. I have found that I feel so much calmer and ready to tackle life as a working mom when I wake up at least 3o minutes before the rest of the household to meditate. I am more patient, more understanding, more energized and just happier overall.
I encourage you to try it! Start with 5 minutes every morning, then work your way up to at least 15. You won't regret it - and your kids will appreciate it too!
