9 Things I'm Doing for my Health this July

Wow! How is it already July?! I say this every year...but I often find it hard to believe that we are already half way through the year!

Time really does fly...

I'll be honest, I'm not a big goal setter, but I do love setting intentions at the beginning of each month - they don't always happen, but I like to at least put them in my head so that I am aware of them: the first step of course!

So, what is the difference between a goal and an intention?

A goal describes what you want to do in the future. Whereas an intention describes how you want to feel. Its focus is internal - on your relationship with yourself.

HERE ARE 9 INTENTIONS I HAVE THIS MONTH (all of which will benefit my health):

-putting my phone in a different room at night. Leaving your phone in another room gives your brain the room to do something else. Whether that's engaging in pillow talk with your person or just decompressing from the day, the bedroom should be a space where work does not follow you. Plus, too much screen time can result in insomnia issues, shorter sleep times and later bedtimes

-getting light in my eyes every morning. Sunlight helps boost serotonin, your feel good chemical that improves your mood. Also, the sun is our most natural resource for Vitamin D.

-letting things come and go as they may. Letting go is empowering. In doing so, you demonstrate to yourself that you have your best interests at heart.

-eating according to my menstrual cycle. I’m going to tell you a secret … your hormones can make you feel wacky! Ok, well, that may not be a secret or surprise, but the way your hormones fluctuate over the course of a month impacts your brain function, cognition, emotional status, and appetite. There is a lot happening in your body over 28 days, making it very important to Eat for Your Cyle - I'll save details for a later post.

-reading a new book. Reading reduces stress, strengthens your brain, helps prepare you for rest.

-slowing downnnnn. When we slow down, we allow ourselves to be more present. As a result, we can savor the moment instead of rushing through it. Slowing down can help us to be more productive. We can take time to think through tasks and make better decisions.

-daily meditation. Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health. You can also use it to relax and cope with stress by refocusing your attention on something calming. Meditation can help you learn to stay centered and keep inner peace.

-mindful eating. The purpose of mindful eating is not to lose weight, although it is highly likely that those who adopt this style of eating will lose weight. The intention is to help you savor the moment and the food and encourage your full presence for the eating experience. This is something I struggle with, I'm constantly on the go - making breakfast and lunch for me and my family, that I often forget to sit down and enjoy my meals. I plan on making this one of my biggest intentions this month.

-having more FUN! As we get older, we tend to think we are too old to have fun. The truth is, you're never too old to have fun! So get out and play.

What are some intentions you plan to set for this month? Or the remainder of the year? Please comment below, I'd love to hear them!
